Hunger & Thirst

I drank until I was beyond sated; curious, then, this drive
to deny myself sustenance. The space I occupy
dictates what is permissible and what is just
a manifestation of gluttony, destined to
become corporeal: deposits on hips,
thighs and belly. Solid evidence
that I lack control. My weight
is at times a sneer, and at
other times an apology.
The number creeps
forward: despair.
I pinch, I poke
and wish it
