Prayer for the Flying

I asked for a puppy—I got a trike;
I asked for a home run—I got a strike;
I asked for Sundays to spend in my bed;
I asked forgiveness, got grounded instead;
I’ve asked for kisses and snow days and sun—
You’ve given me misses, school days, no fun;
I ask for things when I’m angry a lot
and rarely am grateful for what I’ve got;

I even have taken Your name in vain;
so I understand as I board this plane
my demands may be an annoying buzz,
but if You’re up there, I need you because/
despite of these things as I pray truly:

Lord, please let us land safely and smoothly.
