T.V. Vampires

The whiteness transfixes –
it radiates false purity
and lures the unsuspecting
into a sense of security,
a sense that here, at last,

is rescue. This is an injection,
a transfusion of life-giving
mirth. It mimics the feeling
of rejuvenation.
The show will go on!

Fools.

The hilarity becomes
strained, forced, as the
hapless victim is systematically
drained, moved to Friday
nights, and then cancelled.

Only when the husk is
discarded, abandoned like
an empty can left to
rattle along a curb
is the dull horror realized –

that here was a terrible visitant:

Vampyr,
Nosferatu,
Vrykolakas,
BrahmarākŞhasa,

or the Cousin Oliver.
